Virtual Author Event Package

Let us team up with you and help you set up your virtual book launch or author event!

Standard Package:

  • Host your event for 1 hour on Zoom (you have a choice of webinar or meeting format)
  • Provide technical support
  • Manage your ticket bookings on Eventbrite
  • Manage attendee communication
  • Record the event (if you want). The recording will be available for up to 1 week
  • Help you publicise your event on our platforms using material you provide – up to 5 posts a week divided across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook (graphics for the event should include our logo somewhere).

Full Package:

  • Everything in the Standard Package
  • The Selkie chairs your event – you will need to provide a copy of your book to the chairperson to help them prepare in advance
  • We create graphics to help advertise the event (x1 Facebook, x2 Instagram, x3 Twitter)

Additional add-on (+£5):

  • +1 hour time extension. If you’d like to run an event for longer than 2 hours, please contact us first.

Email contact [at] theselkie.co.uk with at least three potential dates and times you’d like to run the event on, and a brief description of your book (if it’s a book launch). Place your order once we’ve confirmed availability.

We will release a limited number of slots at the beginning of each month to prevent calender clashes, and to help us organise the advertising for the event. Please ensure you book at least 2 weeks before the event date.

Why are you doing this?

We’re running this offer to support authors; we understand how hard it’s been for some of you to promote your releases with bookshops being shut. Not everyone is tech-savvy, and not everyone has the funds or experience to run long virtual events, so we’re doing this to take some of that pressure off you. We will help you promote the event and will add links for people to purchase your book(s) at indies and Bookshop.

What kind of events will you support?

We’re supporting all kinds of bookish events as long as they align with the kind of work we do (you can read about that on our About page). Other than that, it’s your event and you can do what you want with it. Get as creative as you like! Promote your book with a readalong or a virtual dress-up party – whatever takes your fancy! How many people can attend?

We can host webinars and meetings for up to 100 people.

What’s the difference between webinar and meeting?

A webinar is view-only; your attendees can see and hear you, but you cannot see or hear your attendees. You can interact with your attendees through functions such as Chat or Q&A.

A meeting is more interactive; your attendees can see and hear you, and you can also see and hear your attendees if they have turned their video and mic on. You can break your session into smaller groups in a meeting.

What does chairing mean?

If you choose to have someone from The Selkie chair at your event, the chairperson will read your book and prepare questions to ask and lead the discussion. The chairperson will also select questions from attendees and read them out to you. You’re welcome to bring your own chairperson to the event – we won’t charge you for having your own chairperson.

Can I charge for tickets?

You certainly can! Your tickets will be sold through Eventbrite, and whatever you make from the ticket sales will be yours to keep. We will not take any cuts from your ticket sales. You will only pay us once, and that’s when you place your order. We are only charging a fee to help us cover admin costs.
