Letter to London by Dean Atta

May 10, 2021

I wish you would find a way
to say you miss me,
not through my mother
or my friends. I wish the bells
of St Paul’s Cathedral
would call my name. I wish
Shakespeare’s Globe
would creak for me
to walk its boards again.
I wish paint would weep
from every canvas in Tate Modern
and Tate Britain
and fill the Thames
with a rainbow in my honour.
I wish your pigeons
would fly to Glasgow, lift me up
and carry me home.
