Virtual Writers’ Group
This is the third of our virtual writers’ group sessions, scheduled to take place on Wednesday 18th August at 7.30pm (UK time) – but new attendees are more than welcome, and actively encouraged to join!
We are running a virtual writers’ group which will aim to create a nurturing, supportive environment for writers to discuss their work-in-progress short fiction. In each hour-long session, we will discuss two or three short stories written and submitted by attendees, encouraging participants to give feedback on what they liked and what needs work, and offering suggestions for improvement. The sessions will be run by a facilitator from our team, who will be able to offer crucial insight into the submissions and editorial process – aiming to equip attendees with knowledge about how to make the best possible submissions, and how their work gets edited.
Tickets are available at £5 per session, or a concession rate of £3 per session for writers who have previously submitted work to The Selkie – whether it’s been accepted or not! Alternatively, tickets for the remaining 4 sessions can be purchased at a discounted rate of £16.50, or £10 at concession. There will also be a small booking fee added by Eventbrite.
Subsequent sessions will be held on 1/9/2021, 15/9/2021, and 29/9/2021. We will set up separate Eventbrite pages for each session for those who choose to buy tickets individually.
Once you’ve purchased your ticket, please email us ([email protected]) a piece of short fiction of roughly 1000-4000 words (double spaced, size 12, Times New Roman would be ideal!) which you’d like to be considered for discussion in the writers’ group. We will then create and circulate a Google doc containing all the submitted pieces, to be read in advance of the sessions.
The workshops will be run via Zoom – we will send out a link in advance of each session – so please ensure that you’ve downloaded the app onto the device you’ll be using in advance.
