Bombay Hectic by Aazar Anis

Aug 8, 2018

Back in 2012, when I was still living in Delhi, my friend Arjun and I decided to go out and meet as many people as we can and catch up with old friends. Soon, we had stories to tell – stories of people we met, places we had been to and the things we discovered about the city. And since we were rabid fans of graphic novels, we decided to try our hand at it and Delhi Hectic was born. Basically, we went back to the myriad Instagram pictures we had amassed and placed text over them. It sounded extremely simple and brilliant.

When I shifted to Bombay in 2015, I decided to replicate this process but make it completely smartphone-based. So, I take pictures with my phone, edit it on my phone, then place text on them using an app and finally, upload them using my phone itself. I wrote this chapter not too long after shifting to Bombay, trying to deal with the hectic rains and getting used to the busy lifestyle – trying to balance work and managing a house. Taking the local Mumbai trains every day, I used to generally walk around a lot. This chapter came about as a result of that.
